News Release: 8/27/2025
Friends for Animals Humane Society of Burke County has been recognized with the No-Kill Award from Best Friends Animal Society. Friends for Animals is now part of an elite group of organizations across the country who are leading the way to making a No-Kill nation.
A No-Kill shelter is defined as a shelter that does not euthanize healthy or treatable animals. No-Kill shelters aim to save 90% or more of animals that are surrendered. When a pet comes to Friends for Animals, it is treated with love and cared for until the perfect person officially makes them part of their family.
This accomplishment represents a culture of caring and compassion which is due to having a dedicated staff, committed volunteers and motivated supporters. It is a representation of innovative, thoughtful programming and extraordinary leadership within Friends for Animals and within the animal welfare movement.
“I am extremely proud of our incredible employees, volunteers, and members for all their hard work, dedication, care, and most of all, love for our precious fur babies” said Chastity Chapman, Friends for Animals Director. “I am incredibly excited to receive this award, and it means a lot to our shelter and our cause.”
